Steering Committee of Voluntary Principles Initiative Visits Nigeria

The Nigeria In-Country Pilot Implementation Working Group of the Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI), of which New Nigeria Foundation is a member, facilitated a five-day working visit of a delegation of the Steering Committee of the Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) to Nigeria.

The delegation, led by Mr. Ronald Roosdorp of the government of The Netherlands, was in Nigeria from Monday, 12th to Friday, 16th February 2018 for a meeting with different stakeholder groups in Eket (Akwa Ibom State), Port Harcourt (Rivers State), Nassarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja).

The delegation comprised local and international representatives of the three pillars of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (government, company, and NGO) and the Nigerian in-Country Pilot Implementation Working Group ( ICPWG).  The visit aimed at providing support to ICPWG; conducting outreaches to Government agencies, military and other security agencies, operators in the extractive sector; on benefits that could accrue to Nigeria if it signs onto the VPI and sharing experiences of implementation of VPs.
