NNF facilitated the onboarding of AGIP’s board of trustees. The onboarding session was held at Golden Tulip Essential Hotel, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The event aimed to build an understanding of the HCDTs, strengthen the link between the Trust, host communities, and settlors, and create awareness of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the roles of the BOTs.
The onboarding took Trustees through chapter three of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and relevant sections of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum host communities development regulation 2022. The session resulted in discussions at the onboarding which covered governance of the host communities’ development trusts (HCDTs), its funding and fund management, procedure for meetings, and reporting obligations. The onboarding also discussed ethics and the process for dispute resolution among other issues.
At the end of the onboarding, the Trustees gained insights into the host communities’ development aspects of the PIA. They understood their roles as Trustees of HCDTs and their obligations to the Settlor and Regulator (Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission – NUPRC).
