Training on Security and Human Rights

As part of New Nigeria Foundation’s obligations as a member of the Voluntary Principles (VPs) on Security and Human Rights, a 2-day training was organized for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command at the Police Training School, Ikeja from Monday, 6th to Tuesday, 7th August 2018.

The objectives of the training were to enable participants:

  • understand the voluntary principles on security and human rights;
  • understand the human rights framework guiding security and human rights practices;
  • understand the various Codes of Conduct that guide their behavior and actions as public security providers including international laws and norms; and
  • understand how daily tasks can be completed in compliance with human rights and ethical conduct.

The training had 52 persons (28 females and 24 males) from various units of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command in attendance. At the end of the training, the capacity of the participants with respect to Human Rights was enhanced and awareness of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command on the voluntary principles; its human rights framework; human rights ethics and responsibilities in compliance with the VPSHR and relevant policies regarding human rights and ethical conduct was increased.
