New Nigeria Foundation was engaged by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) to facilitate the 2015 Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) re-negotiations involving five Regional Development Councils (RDCs) and their State governments. The goal of the re-negotiations was to come up with agreements under the new GMoU (2015-2019) with the RDCs. The facilitation team from NNF was led by Prof. Obafemi Ajibola, the Managing Director.

NNF has successfully facilitated four sets of the GMoUs since inception in 2005. The Mutual Gains Approach (MGA) was used to achieve “win-win” outcomes for all parties. The approach involves training on MGA, presentations and role plays. The objectives were to ensure that all parties had the capacity to negotiate for successful outcomes. The re-negotiations of five GMoUs (Itsekiri, EGCDF, Ilaje, KEFFES and Dodo River) were successfully conducted and facilitators’ records of agreement were signed by the RDCs, CNL and the relevant state governments.
